Timberland management

Forest Inventory Group can manage a client's timberland in order to restore, enhance and maintain the productivity of their timberland. The Associates have extensive experience in managing forests and will work with the client to produce income, provide healthy wildlife habitat, provide recreational opportunities, create a valuable legacy, or all of these things, while maintaining a sustainable Forest. Forest Inventory Group can give the landowner the appropriate information and guidance to develop and maintain their property to produce the desired long-term results.

Timber Harvest Plans (THP)

Forest Inventory Group can produce for clients Timber Harvest Plans that fit their personal needs. Forest Inventory Group have extensive experience in preparing THPs. THPs are required in California to comply with the Forest Practice Act. A THP demonstrates that a harvest plan complies with all applicable laws and provides guidance to the Licensed Timber Operator in all aspects of timber harvesting operations.

Non-Industrial Timber Management Plan (NTMP)

Forest Inventory Group can prepare a NTMP for the timberland owner with than less than 2500 acres of timberland. A NTMP is similar to a THP in that it provides guidance for the Licensed Timber Operator and demonstrates compliance with the Forest Practice Rules. It differs from a THP in that it also contains growth and yield information and generally covers an entire property. The period of a NTMP is indefinite as long as growth and yield information are kept up to date. Long term, the landowner realizes a considerable savings, as the landowner does not need to have an Registered Professional Forester prepare a THP each time timber is harvested. The landowner needs only to notify the California Department of Forestry prior to the start of harvesting operations. Yet another benefit is that the rules governing timber harvesting are not subject to change each year as the forest practice rules change. The rules in effect at the time the NTMP is approved are part of the plan indefinitely.

Modified Timber Harvest Plan (MTHP)

Forest Inventory Group can prepare a MTHP for the timberland owner of less than 100 acres who desires to harvest timber. MTHPs have strict criteria but, where applicable, can provide an economical way to acquire a harvest plan on small ownerships.

Timber Harvest Plan Exemptions

Some timber operations are exempt from harvest plan requirements, and Forest Inventory Group assist the landowner to determine if their situation falls in this category.

Emergency Timber Harvest Plans

Under certain conditions, a plan may be filed to harvest dead and dying timber. Forest Inventory Group can prepare an Emergency Timber Harvest Plan and get approval quickly when time is critical in order to harvest timber before decay causes a loss to the landowner.

Logging Supervision

Forest Inventory Group can supervise logging operations to help avoid significant adverse impacts and ensure that the operations comply with the harvest plan. The Associates can also act as an agent for the landowner in the landowner's absence.

Reforestation & Stocking Surveys

Forest Inventory Group can assist the landowner in all aspects of reforestation projects from recommendations of optimal tree species to establish, site preparation and burning, to the planting of tree seedlings.

Forest Inventory Group can perform stocking surveys to assess the success of reforestation efforts and compliance with the stocking standards specified in the THP and Forest Practice Rules.
